Ordinary Mind will be organizing a 7-day sesshin on July 18-25, 2020. The teacher on this sesshin is Timo Teräväinen and the jikido is Ismo Puhakka.
Due to the Covid-19 situation and precautions, the number of participants on the sesshin has to be limited. The sesshin also has other special features. We follow the recommended distances to other participants in zendo and in other places. Necessary safety precautions are taken into account when dining and in bedroom arrangements. Special attention is paid to hygiene.
If participants are able to bring their own tent or motorhome / caravan, we will be able to slightly increase the number of participants to up to 18, depending on the above. Let us know in the application if you can bring your own tent or caravan.
This time it has been decided that only participation from the beginning is possible, i.e. it is not possible to arrive in the middle of the sesshin. You can leave sesshin in the middle if you have to, but we try to keep the traffic to a minimum.
Individuals at risk for Covid-19 are not recommended to attend the sesshin. Participation in sesshin should be canceled if there are even slight symptoms of the flu or respiratory inflammation at the onset of sesshin, or the slightest suspicion of coronavirus infection. In this case, the session fee will be refunded in full.
Only persons living in Finland and persons who have been in Finland for at least 3 weeks before the start date of the session on 18 July 2020 can participate in this sesshin. These precautions are maintained during this session so that we can prevent the spread of Covid-19 infections and ensure that participants feel as safe as possible during the sesshin. We are monitoring the situation and responding to the authorities' recommendations. The guidelines may change before the sesshin begins.
In other respects, the sesshin broadly follows the normal form of the sesshins of the Ordinary Mind tradition. The daily program starts at about 5:30 and ends at 21:30. The program includes zazen, walking meditation, yoga and chanting. During the day there is breakfast, lunch, dinner and a light dinner. The food is vegetarian. There is silence during sesshin, excluding the meetings with the teacher (dokusan).
In Sweden, there will be a 7-day sesshin on the same dates, with Magnus Norén as the teacher.
